A beautiful quote from a lovely lady — “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow” – Audrey Hepburn.
This quote is so relevant right now as we get used to our new normal and begin to believe that tomorrow will bring better times.
At Luxe du Jour we have always loved having fresh plants and flowers in our house. There is something about the natural blooms that make us happy and add to our decor. We even have a few orchids blooming on trees throughout our garden. Once they lose their blooms inside, we attach them to trees outside and they bloom every year. What a treat!

English Roots And My Love Of Flowers
My English roots might be to blame, as we always have flowering plants and ivy in various places throughout the house and on the patio. We also have a small herb garden that is overflowing this year with basil, thyme, tarragon, rosemary, oregano, and mint. We love to go out to harvest a few fresh herbs to add to a roast chicken, pasta dishes, or fresh mint for iced tea. The simplest things in life can bring such joy.
On a recent trip to visit family in the South of England, we noticed how dedicated everyone is to tending their gardens. And, there were some real beauties. The cottage below is surrounded by gorgeous blooms, and this was just one of many that we enjoyed while visiting this special place.
The famous gardens in Bournemouth, where my father grew up are certainly special, as are the small and medium-sized gardens in our cousin’s village. In London, many of the homes have flower boxes overflowing with the most beautiful blooms. We would love to add some window boxes on the front of our house but need to have a watering system to keep them moist in this incredibly hot weather.

Hydrangea Blooms Everywhere
One of our favorites is hydrangea and they do quite well in the house. This year, we planted one in a shady spot in the front of the house and it has been constantly blooming for several months. We may need to make another effort to plant some in a shady area in our garden next year.
In our front garden, we have the most gorgeous Walking Iris that we think is the Blue Moon Iris variety. They are in full bloom right now and are spectacular. This is definitely nature at its best!

We typically have cut roses in a vase on our piano in the living room, a hydrangea on our sofa table, and a blooming plant on our coffee table in the family room. We tend to rotate the flowers to where we can enjoy them the most. In the powder room, we always place a small bud vase with roses to add something special to that area.
Flowers In Decor

You definitely do not need to spend a fortune on flowers and plants. We usually are able find some very nice items at our local market.

We also have a bit of an obsession with topiaries and have several throughout the house. They are all dried or preserved boxwood and stay green all year long. They add that nice touch of green to each room.
Do you enjoy having fresh blooms in your home? How do you incorporate plants and flowers into your decor? We would love to hear from you. Keep on gardening!
