Fabulous Cocktail du Jour – Rummmmmm
On a recent trip to Charleston for the incredible Haven Conference, we had a night just to enjoy a nice dinner. The hubs came with me on the trip and found a great restaurant not too far from the hotel. They had incredible seafood, beautiful ambiance and excellent service. You just could not ask for anything more.
The restaurant is in an old bank building, and the kitchen is located in the vault. The restaurant of choice is The Ordinary Oyster Hall. Their website states that they serve “fancy seafood in Charleston.”
Let me assure you that there was nothing ordinary about this place. I say – extraordinary!
We even discovered a fabulous new cocktail that will become our signature cocktail when we have company for dinner. It’s called The Old. It resembles the traditional old fashioned, but is made with 12-year-old Eldorado Rum, angostura bitters, some cane syrup and a generous sized slice of orange rind.
The waitress was exceptional and gave us the basic recipe. You should try it. It is absolutely delicious.

The Old Cocktail
2 ounces of rum
1/8 ounce of cane syrup (much like simple syrup)
2 shakes of bitters
A large slice of orange rind
Serve over ice, and ENJOY!
Hello! It was so nice meeting you and your husband a couple of weeks ago. Please let me know when you are returning to Charleston…we would love to have you come stay with us!
