We are fortunate to live in an area with a relatively mild climate. After moving to Bluffton, South Carolina we realized that it can get a little chilly here in the winter months. Definitely not something we are used to, but a really nice change.
A Change In Climate
According to our neighbors this has been an unusually cold period with temperatures dipping to the 30s a few times. The good news is that it is February and we are getting many days in the low 70s. This is my favorite temperature for walking, working in the garden and just enjoying outdoors.
Gotta Love A Picnic
We recently headed to the new park that sits along the May River in Old Town Bluffton. It was a beautiful day here and there were so many people out and about with their dogs or just enjoying a picnic on the grass. If the weather holds out, we plan to take a picnic lunch down to the park with a good book. Anyone that knows me – knows that I LOVE a picnic. When we were in Napa Valley a couple of years ago we packed a picnic almost everyday to enjoy at some of our favorite wineries. Why not make this a regular activity right here at home?

In the past, we enjoyed alfresco dining on our patio in Florida. Many times it was just too hot to be outdoors. Here, on the other hand is perfect right now, however will get pretty hot during the summer. This is our first year living here and we are looking forward to seeing the changes with each season.
Our First Alfresco Table Setting
Our alfresco dining here will take place overlooking a salt marsh. It is so beautiful and the view is ever-changing. When the tide is high it looks like a lake and typically later in the day it looks like a grassy pasture.
Due to the pandemic, are still somewhat isolated. Having a 91 year old Dad here is keeping us very cautious. However, Dad walks about a quarter of a mile everyday and I continue on with a longer walk. We like to sit out on the dock on the river, or walk around the park. And we are still exploring the area. Bluffton really is a charming place with so many areas to visit.

Spring Has Sprung!
It’s as if “Spring has sprung” around here. Yesterday our dear friends gathered here to go on a walk to the dock. While we were sitting there “solving the problems of the world”…we saw a dolphin swimming very close to us. He was swimming around us for quite some time. What a special treat!
Then, on to the patio for an alfresco libation (or two) and a cheese pairing. Even Dad enjoyed being outside with the sun shining and a warm breeze.

So, if you are up north and the weather is still freezing cold you can look forward to Spring. It’s only 23 days away.
