A while back, we featured a cocktail recipe on Facebook and people loved it. It was such a big hit, that we decided to do a featured post, and add a periodic “Thirsty Thursday” feature to our repertoire.
Many of you enjoy our “Tasty Tuesday” series, so we thought — why not?
As you may know, we just love traveling to Italy and discovered the perfect cocktail while there. It’s the Aperol Spritz. Even the name sounds exciting!
The first time we had this aperitif, was in a small village restaurant near Cortona. They served this to us with some nibbles before dinner, and we loved it! An aperitif is a drink to be taken before a meal to stimulate the appetite. What a wonderful way to start a meal!
This drink definitely has some history. It was created over 100 years ago by two Italian brothers in Venice, and made famous by a black and white sketch on Italian television in the 1960s. It has a slightly bitter citrus-flavor and pairs well with both salty and sweet foods. Why not try a fig, brie, and prosciutto bruschetta for the perfect nosh?
Then, many years later, when we were in Charleston, we rediscovered this refreshing and unusual beverage.
Once we got home, I headed right out to purchase a fresh bottle of Aperol. We already had some prosecco in our wine bar and club soda. Just add an orange slice – and cheers!
It’s so easy to make and is sure to become a favorite of yours.
Next time you are entertaining, offer this as a “signature” drink to your guests. They will love you for it!
