Our family room is currently decorated in yellow and red toile with white slipcovered couches and red and yellow decorative items. Add a red and white buffalo plaid rug from Pottery Barn, and you have a bright and cheerful look. Not that I don’t love this look, but I think a softer color scheme will be a nice change. The drapery panels, and one of the throw pillows are by Waverly.
Here is a look at the family room now:

I have always enjoyed changing things up for the season. Even though we live in South Florida, and there is little to no change in temperature, it is still something that I like to do. Of course, the hubs never thinks anything needs to be changed, but he finally goes along with me, and even assists with some of the projects.
This year, I have been craving a change. Everywhere I look beautiful designs are featuring blue and white. Beautiful fabrics, ginger jars, buffalo plaids, blue and white rugs, and accessories. Even though the name of my blog is Luxe du Jour, that does not mean that getting a luxe look cannot be accomplished on a budget.
On a recent visit to Boca Bargoons to look at fabric, I found so many fabulous options. I found a beautiful blue and white print for the drapery panels, and a navy wool blend for the cornices.
The cornices will be slipcovered in the navy fabric so that I can switch back to the red and white cornices during the Christmas season. The drapery panels are mounted on wood and mounted to the wall under the cornices, so these can be easily switched out too.
I think that we will change back to the red and yellow scheme for the holidays. There is nothing better than having the red and white rug and a collection of holiday pillows in the room that we spend the most time in.
Homegoods is one of my favorite places to find pillows, throws, decorative plates, and all things fab! They carry a lot of Ralph Lauren and other designers in addition to a fantastic selection of rugs and Asian ceramics. Wait until you see the wonderful pieces that I found. So many of the decorative items were not only reasonably priced, but look like designer grade.
There were great blue and white plates that I plan to collect and hang on one of the walls. I also found a great selection of beautiful ginger jars, blue and white picture frames, and a navy and white bed cover. The bed coverlet will make a perfect table skirt for the draped table between our Pottery Barn couches.

Even the kitchen will need some “zhushing.” I think I need a large ginger jar to hold utensils and a couple of accents. I just love reinventing a space. It really is primarily “cosmetic” with no renovations, but there is still a lot to do to transform the entire area.
A red sofa table was moved to one of our guest bedrooms, as it was definitely designed to pair with the yellow and red plan. Then, I took a chest from one area and positioned it behind one of the couches to act as a sofa table. Where that was previously located, I placed a wicker tray with stand. Ideally, I would like to get another sofa table and to move the chest back where it originally was located. I think that the wicker tray is a little too small for the area.
Anyway, what do you do to update your decor? Do you add seasonal changes? I think that maybe it is just time to make a change for us. Stay tuned for the transformation.
